Vintage 80s Victor Costa Velvet Cocktail Party Dress, Flounced Skirt, Sz Med/Lg

This lush black velvet dress from Victor Costa is so wearable, not like some of his “over-the-top” looks! Real-woman size, too. Perfect for dinner, cocktails, parties.

Features simple lines till you get to the fabulous tiered, flounced skirt with gorgeous pink satin lining! (You must see the photos!).  It really “makes” this dress. Dress body is semi-fitted; fairly straight & nipped-in at waist, skims the hipline. Buttons up with rhinestone-encircled black buttons.

Fabric: Rayon velvet

Condition: Near mint; I see no flaws other than one tiny dark spot on the lining, which doesn’t show when dress is worn.

Size: Missing its label. Approx. size 12 (large), but may fit a 10/medium. Use garment measurements to determine fit.

* Measurements

Bust: 39½″

Waist: 34¼″ (unfitted, unseamed)

Natural Hip: 41″

Dropped Waist at Skirt: 40″

Vintage 70s’ Designer Mollie Parnis Raspberry Pink Silk Wrap Dress, Med  SOLD

A timeless, elegant piece by Morty Sussman for Mollie Parnis, great for work, cocktails, dinner, or party. Reflects the wearable, yet feminine, sense Parnis, whose fashions were worn by several first ladies (including Mamie Eisenhower), brought to her work. Circa 1973/74, this is reminiscent of Diane Von Furstenberg's iconic wrap dress of the same era. A rich, luscious raspberry pink silk that drapes beautifully, especially over the hip area, with its a small swag falling softly to the tulip hemline. True wrap styling, with inner hook and eye closures on each side and a snap in the middle to keep the neckline from falling open. Also has lightly gathered, seamed waist, narrow kimono-style sleeves, self belt. We've dated this to 1974 or earlier due to its union label, the all-blue label that preceded the red, white, and blue label in 1974.

Condition: Excellent, has been professionally dry cleaned. There’s one all but invisible, tiny pinprick at the neckline where possibly someone pinned a brooch.

Size: Labeled size 12, but runs smaller. Estimated size medium (8 to 10). Bodice is meant to be slightly loose and bloused a bit, so there's some flexibility in the fit through that area. The waist can be let our or taken in a little by moving the hooks & eyes and the snap. Please use garment dimensions below and your actual measurements to determine fit:

* Measurements

Bust: 39 1/2"

Waist: 28 1/2"

Hip: 41 1/2" (meant for a soft, not tight, fit)

Vintage 60s Psychedelic Print Mini Shirt Dress, Ruffled Trim, Sz Med Lg 10 12

More Photos

Item Number: LE-8154

Price: $48

Shipping: Based on weight and destination, calculated at checkout.

Great psychedelic op-art print in spring colors evokes the 60s' & 70s' prints of Pucci. Shirt-dress styling, ca. late 60s or early 70s, with buttons down the entire front. The ruffled jabot-style treatment at the top and the ruffled sleeve hems were very popular in the day. Straight shift shape can be worn unbelted or with a belt or sash for more waistline definition (sash shown not included). Hidden on-seam pockets on both sides. Great wash & wear fabric--80% dacron polyester, 20% combed cotton--cool and crisp.

This is "new old stock" and had its original tags. However, the clerk at the antique shop cut them off along with the resale price tag. I saved part of it and will include with the dress (although it's faded from age). It’s labeled “Lady Ethel.”

Fabric: Dacron polyester/cotton; permapress

Size: Approx. a large medium to a small large (10 to 12). Shown unpinned on a size large dress form that measures 39 1/2" x 30" x 40". Because this is NOT a stretch fabric, please leave at least 2" to 3" over your body measurements for movement and comfort.

Dress "measures out" a little bit larger than it really fits, as the hip dimension is smaller than the bust. Please go by the dimensions below!

Bust: 42 1/2", max (accounting for ease); Waist: 38" 1/2"; Hip: 41" ; Shoulder to Shoulder: 16 1/8"

Length: 38 1/2" down center back

Condition: Mint, unworn

Vintage 1970s Designer Adele Simpson Abstract Print Chiffon Dress, Sz Med Lg  SOLD

This mid to late 1970s’ dress by designer Adele Simpson† is perfect for parties, cocktails, or any other special occasion; works for “work to dinner,” too. Dress is constructed of a semi-sheer chiffon shell in shades of purple, with a lining in a pinky-mauve color. Skirt shell is a full circle, but the lining is a straight pencil style–this makes the skirt fall into softly draped folds, and gives it swish and swirl. The chiffon feels just like silk, but a burn test indicates it’s nylon or possibly a silk/nylon blend. Lining looks/feels like silk or a quality rayon twill. Comes with a wide self sash that can be used as a tie belt or wrap. Back nylon zipper. Carries red, white, and blue Union (1974 and after) label.

Dress is about mid-calf length–not full length as it might appear in the photos (dress form is “short”).

Condition: Excellent overall. Lining has what appears to be some color transfer from the dress, but this isn’t at all apparent or noticeable from looking at the dress; also might be some inherent color shift just in the lining.

Size: Not labeled; measures out to about a size 12, possibly a 10. Check the waist measurement, as this will give you the maximum fit.

* Measurements

Bust: 40"

Waist: 30"

Hip: 42"

†Adele Simpson started her design career at Ben Gershal in 1927. Her sister was employed there, and Gershal hired Adele after asking her sister about who made her dresses. In 1942 she went to work at Mary Lee, where by 1944, she worked under her own name. She purchased the company in 1949 and re-named it Adele Simpson, Inc.

Her husband, Wesley Simpson, designed many of the fabrics Adele used in her early designs. She was known for her usage of fabrics, and for her practical, wearable designs (as evidenced by this dress).

Simpson was known throughout the 1970s and 1980s for chemise dresses and shirtwaists. After she retired in the early 1980s, the company was run by her daughter, Joan Simpson Raines.

Vintage 70s’ Designer Mr. Dino Signature Windowpane Print Jersey Maxi Dress, Sz Medium or Large

We love †Mr. Dino prints, but find some of them a tad “much” for regular wear. This one, however, is a very wearable style and size. Wear it all season–to parties, dinner or lunch, on vacation.... Keep it casual or dress it up! Features a quintessential 70s’ wide collar, drawstring waist with narrow tie belt, and sexy calf-bearing slit on left side. The collar has 3 hook & eye closures at the back to keep it in place. Darling floral “windowpane” print (very hot this year)  in red, yellow, and green on Mr. Dino’s high-quality, silky feeling and lustrous poly jersey knit. Back nylon zipper. Probably about ankle length or a bit above, perfect to wear with some strappy sandals. Happily, this dress is washable, by hand.

Condition: Excellent/Near Mint; appears rarely or barely worn. Has been laundered and is ready to wear.

Size: Tagged size 14, but runs small. Looks to be a modern medium (about a 10), possibly up to a smallish large (12), best suited for a full-cup bust. But go by the dimensions below! We suggest you compare to a dress you have of similar style or fit. The fabric does stretch; minimum and comfortable maximum dimensions are given.

* Measurements

Bust: 39" to 41", unstretched to stretched

Waist: 33", with drawstring slack, adjustable down to about 26" with drawstring reasonably drawn up

Hip: 38" to 40", unstretched to stretched

Bodice: 15 1/4"

Length: 53" down center back from collar seam

Mr. Dino’s real name was Max Cohen. He started designing in the late fifties, adopting the “Mr. Dino” label because his wife was a big fan of Dean Martin’s. Often compared to Emilio Pucci, he was known for his unique designs and designed each print himself. He also invented the silk-screening machine used to print the design onto the fabric.

Item Number: SCA-611

A wonderful “little black dress” by Arnold Scaasi, from his ready-to-wear line. All in black, with sleek, classic lines; very elegant. Solid black; photo slightly lightened for detail.

Features princess seaming on bodice, fitted seamed waistline, and back nylon zipper. Skirt is a short, flirty length, with its hem lined with stiffening to keep it shaped. I’m a fabric junkie, and this dress is made of a rich, high-quality fabric, a blend that has the look of de-lustered satin—softly lustrous but not shiny. The weight of this fabric makes it suitable for wear nearly year round. Fully lined. Matching satin belt.

Fabric: Shell— 47% rayon, 42% tri-acetate, 11% polyester; lining: 100% acetate

Condition: Near mint, ready to wear with just a pressing or steaming (I’ve steamed it, but it’ll need it again after shipping). Has been professionally cleaned.

Size: Labeled size 8; looks true to size. But, go by the actual garments measurements below to determine fit.

Waist: 29"

Bodice Length from back neckline to waist: 13 ¼"

Vintage 1960s Emma Domb Yellow Silk Fit n’ Flare Short Dress, Sz Med or Large 10 12

Item Number: ED-8261

Price: $135

The “fit n’ flare” silhouette is back in a big way, and this mid 60s’ dress by Emma Domb is a perfect example! Unlike many special-occasion Domb dresses you see from the 60s and 70s, this is a nice short length (knee length or above, depending on your height).

Made of a buttery yellow Shantung silk , it features unique seaming on the bodice, with standard waist seam in back; vertical seams on front from bust to hem; back nylon zipper. The silk has a soft luster and is of very high quality. Dress is fully lined in silky yellow taffeta.

The fabulous Coro fruit-salad necklace shown with this is now listed, and they’re perfect together!

NOTE: Color appears true on my monitor, but yellow is one of those colors that will look different under studio (fluorescent) lighting than incandescent (normal indoor lighting).

Fabric: Shell— Shantung silk; lining: taffeta (probably acetate, but no content label is present)

Condition: Near mint, ready to wear with just a light pressing or steaming . Has been professionally cleaned. One tiny spot (about 1/16") is present just above the hemline in back, where nobody will notice it!

Size: Labeled size 14; I estimate it’s about a modern 12, or 10 if you like a less structured fit, but, go by the actual garments measurements below to determine fit.

Shipping: Free within U.S., discounted internationally; contact us prior to ordering.

Vintage 60s/70s’ Designer Jane Andre Fringed Wool Dress, Sz 6 8 Medium

This dress from Jane Andre of California is of exceptional quality! Not a household name, this label is unfortunately overlooked, but its pieces are of excellent workmanship and high-quality fabric. Circa late 1960s to early 70s, this dress has a black bodice with small stand-up collar and is made of wool or wool/silk-blend faille with a soft hand. Skirt is a loose-weave houndstooth wool yarn fringe, overlapped to give a wrap effect. Dress is fully lined in what looks and feels like silk (no place to take a snip from to do a burn test). Lining is pieced and fitted to the dress, a feature of higher-end construction, and seams are pinked. Original belt loops remain to fit a wide belt, but there’s no belt with it (pair with one of your own, or simply remove the loops, as this looks fine without one). Back nylon zipper. Union label.

Condition: Near mint; appears rarely or barely worn. Exceptionally clean, ready to wear.

Size: No size tag; measures out to be a modern medium (6 - 8). But go by the dimensions below! We suggest you reference our sizing tips and also compare to a dress you have of similar style or fit.
